Farewell letter Frank Garritsen
Vaassen, September 1, 2018
In November 2017, we informed you on behalf of BEGA Special Tools about an imminent change in company management. I can now inform you that as of September 1, 2018, I shall retire as Director and on 1 January 2019 as co-shareholder. From that date on our company will officially be in the expert hands of Henk van Essen, who is currently in charge of the day-to-day management.
I deliberately write 'our' company, because that's the way it feels. BEGA Special Tools is not only a symbol to me as a very important player in the world of power transmission, but also as a truly familial company. From the first moment that I started at BEGA in 1982, and later as a Director from 1988 up to the present, I experienced this feeling on a daily basis.
In those 36 years I was also conscious every day of the fact that I could not do it alone. A valuable lesson learned. When I look at the wall in my office, there is a frame containing many business cards of people who I have met worldwide and with whom I built up a relationship. There are hundreds of them and every card triggers a memory. Together they form a great and impressive remembrance of a fascinating time for me as Director of BEGA Special Tools. This time makes me so proud.
Please be assured that after the takeover, our company remains the trusted address for specialized tools in the field of assembly and disassembly of bearings and drive components. We are also the specialist - in this 40th anniversary year - in the field of special tools for maintenance in drive technology exporting to more than 60 countries.
I would like to sincerely thank you for the constructive cooperation, your continued trust in BEGA Special Tools. I wish you all the best for the future, both privately and businesswise. I hope our paths will cross some time again in the future.
PS: You can also contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Bega Special Tools announces takeover
Bega Special Tools aims to keep you up to date with key developments within the organisation.
It gives us great pleasure to announce that Bega Special Tools has been acquired by Henk van Essen. The last share transfer will take place on 1 January 2019. As a result of this, Frank Garritsen will step down as CEO after 35 years of service. This is an important step towards a healthy future for Bega and its employees.
Frank Garritsen has very impressively led the company since 1982. Under his leadership, Bega expanded into a specialist in the field of special tools for maintenance in drive technology. Partly thanks to his efforts, Bega now exports to more than 60 countries and the company enjoys a sterling reputation in the world of drive technology. Frank will continue to carry out his tasks at Bega until 1 January 2019.
Henk van Essen - who has now worked at Bega for nearly 20 years - has been charged for some time now with the daily running of the business. He also continues to carry out his commercial tasks in his entrusted regions in Europe and in North and South America, and in the development of Private Label Distributors.
This takeover will not involve any noticeable changes for you. We remain the place to be for special tools for mounting and dismounting of bearings and transmission parts. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact us.

Removing bearings, wheels, can be easier than you think!
Train maintenance Rolling stock
Rolling stock maintenance is an important part of the railway system. Imagine what would happen if this is neglected: stalled trains would block rails and the existing timetables would become a complete mess. This is why regular maintenance is necessary in order to maintain a reliable train park.
Engineers will recognize the risks they run into when confronted with stuck wheels or bearings. Cutting or grinding can be dangerous and can cause damage to shafts. Even the task of installing parts in a safe way can be a challenge. Having the right tools in a maintenance facility should be a priority to ensure reliability and also personal safety!
Bega Special Tools is specialized in tools for removing and installing bearings and other transmission parts. Particularly for the Rail and Metro business a number of tools have been designed to remove and install railway bearing sets, gears, brake discs, labyrinth rings and so forth.
- For removing and installing railway bearing sets and labyrinth rings you can use special induction heaters. Middle frequency induction heating technology is a safe and cost effective heating method which improves the quality of installation. Bega is manufacturer of the BETEX MF Quick-Heater, various models are available, combined with fixed or flexible inductors.
- For removing gears and train wheels Bega supplies a unique series of self-centering hydraulic pullers (4-150 t capacity!). These pullers are so easy to use and require a minimum of set-up time. We have examples of dismounting wheels in combination with oil pressure.
- More specialistic is the BETEX BPP/BPPS. This is a combined bearing puller & pusher exclusively designed for mounting and dismounting railway bearing sets.
All described tools and methods have one thing in common: they are designed to make the job easier, faster and above all safer. Flameless induction heating offers so many advantages: safety, environmentally friendly, easy handling, no noise or pollution. Even reuse of parts is a real possibility.
The Ultimate Precision Induction Heater
Bega Special Tools’ new hand held induction heater is the ultimate precision heating tool.
Since the introduction at the Hannover Messe 2015, many BETEX iDuctors found their way to enthusiastic users. They literally say “We have wasted so much time messing around with burners before we found this piece of equipment. We can now apply heat precisely where it is needed, without causing damage to surroundings. It is a far better and safer way of working!
The crucial characteristic of induction heating is that the outermost components are heated, contrasting with the use of a gas burner which heats everything simultaneously. Local heating is possible within a minute or seconds! So speed, is one of the main features of the BETEX iDuctor 1. And it is so very easy to use. Simply plug-in and you can instantly start heating. Induction heating is one of the most adequate methods to convert energy to heat, in turn saving cash with lower energy bills. At the same time it is contributing to the safety of your employees, as well as the physical location of a company. Think of advantages like: no excessive heat, no open flames, no smoke, no noise. The working environment benefits tremendously.
There are many applications and we are still discovering new ones. For instance it is an ideal solution for stuck nuts (watch video). The extreme fast and high temperature dissolves rust or sealants. The advantage of working with this hand tool is that it operates without a flame. The use of open fire of a blow torch always entails some form of risk in and may cause air pollution. Even an angle-grinder is far from ideal. Apart from causing sparks, it also damages the area surrounding the part.
Heat tubes, bearings, inner rings, bearing houses, nuts and many other components. Thanks to the choice of fixed spirals and flexible coils you can use the BETEX iDuctor 1 for many dimensions. It is also possible to heat from the outside or from the inside of a part, depending on the object of heating. The coils can be replaced very easily, there is no need for tools. The BETEX iDuctor comes in a handy carrying case, heat-resistant gloves and a choice of fixed or flexible inductors.
BETEX 24 XLDi light weight heater
DEBUT: Portable Light-weight BETEX Induction Heater BETEX 24 XLDi portable
At the 2015 Hannover Messe, Bega Special Tools* plans to introduce their new light-weight, portable induction heater. Developed in-house, the device design is based on the ‘Safety first’ motto. It is particularly suitable for heating rotating parts such as bearings, gears and couplings, enabling a shrink-fit. Contrary to the relatively heavy, low frequency induction heaters commonly available on the market, this new BETEX® 24 XLDi induction heater weighs merely 7 kilograms. The new model’s substantial weight reduction was realised thanks to the application of medium frequency technology, which does not require a massive U-shaped core in conjunction with heavy steel yokes. In order to guarantee a balanced heating performance, the substantially lighter coil in the new model has been combined with a specially developed electronic unit. The fact that the device components do not need to be demagnetized upon use is another advantage of medium-frequency technology. Moreover, the heater’s deployment does not require any preparatory activities and its energy efficient design helps to save on electricity. Regarding bearings, their original lubrication is not affected by this heater. When compared to conventionally applied heating methods, such as the use of blow torches and baths of boiling hot oil, this induction heater is the superior device for a safer, cleaner and particularly more efficient heating process.
The BETEX® 24 XLDi induction heater is suitable for heating components ranging from steel cylindrical / ball bearings, with closed and open housings, to gears, couplings and rings, up to a maximum outer diameter of 180 mm in conjunction with temperatures of up to 150° C. Heating a component with the maximum size specification takes approximately 15 minutes. As standard, this BETEX® 24 XLDi induction heater package comes with heat-resistant gloves inside a plastic case specifically designed for this purpose. Thanks to the mentioned induction heater, the lifespan of the rotating components in machines may be substantially extended, resulting in a lower Total Cost of Ownership.

Bega Special Tools, first-timer at the Europort 2015
Hal 2, 2116
Bega Special Tools is a Dutch manufacturer and supplier for high quality tools for mounting and dismounting of bearings and other transmission parts. Keywords for all equipment are: personal safety, working efficiently, avoid damage, uptime!
Novelties at the exhibition are 2 portable induction heaters: the BETEX iDucotor, a hand held heater that BETEX iDuctor, a microprocessor-controlled, portable hand-held heater designed for single-handed operation. The innovative hand tool will be marketed under the name of ‘Betex iDuctor’ and found on display at the 2015 Hannover Messe. The device was specially developed to locally heat small metal components, such as drive components, bolts, nuts, couplings and rings. Once the desired power level and warm-up time are set, localised heating of the respective object may be achieved in a matter of seconds. So it is an ideal solution for stuck nuts and bolts. Contrary to a conventional blow torch or grinder, the advantage of working with this hand tool is that it operates without a flame. The use of open fire of a blow torch always entails some form of risk in workshops and may cause air pollution. And even an angle-grinder is far from ideal. Apart from causing sparks, it also damages the area surrounding the part. Yet, the new model has none of these drawbacks.
The 2nd new induction heater is the BETEX 24 XLDi, a light-weight, portable induction heater. Developed in-house, the device design is based on the ‘Safety first’ motto. It is particularly suitable for heating rotating parts – such as bearings, gears and couplings – enabling a shrink-fit. Mounting and Dismounting with smart technology of the New Generation BETEX 3.0 Medium Frequency Induction Heaters
Vaassen, July 2017. Bega Special Tools introduced a new generation of induction heaters: the Betex MF Quick-Heater 3.0 is a Middle Frequency (Mid-Frequency) induction heater for mounting and dismounting bearings and other machine parts made from steel, stainless steel or titanium. Equipped with smart processor technology, the new heating system allows a far better control of the heating process and data storage for future reference. These new heaters enable users to perform safe, fast and clean operations.
Utilised for the installation and dismantling of bearings and other metal machine parts such as labyrinth seals, bearing rings, bearing inner rings, sleeves, bushes, couplings and gears, medium frequency induction heating offers a cost effective heating method. The optional flexible inductors can be wrapped around any size or shape, not limiting their use to components with a cylindrical shape. Thanks to the Betex MF Quick-Heater's compact and mobile design, it can easily be moved around in the workshop or factory saving time. It can be deployed very rapidly, heating faster than conventional methods. Thanks to its more efficient electricity consumption, energy use is much lower. It has a low connection power of 32 A or 63 A. The generators are adjustable from 2.5 kW to 22 kW or even 44 kW. The clean system operates very quietly, without any residual magnetism, fire hazard, excessive noise or polluting fumes. Improving the quality of installation or maintenance, the MF Quick-Heater is suitable for production as well as maintenance applications in MRO and OEM companies.
The new generation medium frequency Betex MF Quick-Heater 3.0 features smart processor technology. Of compact design, it has a large touch screen, a USB port for software upgrade, and a log-in option for remote servicing. The unit heats according to a preset temperature/time curve and displays the temperature development in a chart, whereas the heating cycle can be saved on a PC or a USB flash drive. Smart electronics ensure the optimal operating frequency and provide the user with tips on optimal heating, for example by suggesting the deployment of more or fewer windings. These heaters come with adjustable power control as well as dual temperature sensing (monitoring ΔT). Moreover, they have the option enabling the user to operate several heaters in combination.
The new heating system allows a far better control of the heating process”, explains Henk van Essen, Bega’s Managing Director. “Bearing manufacturers are producing expensive bearings while recommending to their customers the correct mounting and dismounting procedures. Especially in certain industry sectors such as railways and wind power, there are strict safety regulations that have to be observed. For quality and safety reasons, users are required to consistently log all maintenance activities performed on components. Thanks to the applied smart technology of the new Betex MF Quick-Heater 3.0, heating and mounting data and protocols can be saved for future reference. Given this feature, users may now say: The bearing's installation was performed according to the specifications and we are able to prove it.”
